Village Government

Deputy Mayor Peter D. Phillips

Deputy Mayor Pete Phillips, a Fishkill native, has served on the Village Board since March, 2005 and was appointed Deputy Mayor in July, 2006, He serves on the Finance, Human Resources, Streets and Police Committees and is the liaison with the Justice Court and Planning Board.

Deputy Mayor Phillips served seven terms as County Legislator representing the entire Village and part of the Town of Fishkill from January, 1988-December, 2001. In his capacity as County Legislator, he served four years as Majority Whip and chaired the Public Safety Committee for eight years. During this time, he was charged with the development and implementation of the Dutchess County E-911 system and brought it to a successful opening in October, 1999. Pete also served as the Village representative on the Town Recreation Committee from 1973-1986.

Pete retired from the Wappingers Central School District in June, 2005 after teaching Social Studies for 31 years. He was Teacher-in-Charge of the Social Studies Department at Roy C. Ketcham High School, taught AP United States History, Economics, Society & Culture of 20th Century America and The Civil War. He was honored nine times with selection to Who's Who Among American Teachers.

Deputy Mayor Phillips has been a member of the Fishkill Fire Department and Protection Engine Co. #1 since May, 1966. He has served as President, Vice President and Secretary and is currently the Treasurer. In addition he has been Treasurer of the Fishkill Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association for 30 years, a Trustee of the Fishkill Rural Cemetery for 20 years and is currently in his eighteenth year as First Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Cemetery.

Doug Phillips Park in the Town of Fishkill was named in honor of Pete's father who was a founder of the Fishkill Little League and Recreation Program.

Pete and his wife are enjoying retired life in the Village of Fishkill.
