The Home Energy Assistance Program

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides assistance with home energy needs for low income, older individuals and families. Services include financial assistance with fuel bills, emergency financial assistance for fuel/utility terminations and referrals for weatherization service. Senior citizens who are in an emergency situation (without heating fuel and/or those with a scheduled heat related utility shutoff) may be eligible for emergency assistance. Seniors with an emergency or with questions about the HEAP application should call the Dutchess County Office for the Aging at 486-2555. If you are calling about an emergency, it is best to call early in the day in order to give the Office for the Aging enough time to assist you

Weatherization Referral and Packaging Program

If you are having trouble heating your home, the Dutchess County Office of the Aging can assist with the Weatherization Referral and Packaging Program (WRAP). This program is designed to help senior citizens with energy related problems or needs. If you are experiencing a cold, drafty house during the winter, or if your heating bills are skyrocketing out of sight, contact the Dutchess County Office for the Aging at (845) 486-2555 to see if you can get help with your energy troubles. A WRAP representative will talk to you and help you pull together energy services in the community that can help you.
