Treasurer/Taxes

The Treasurer’s Office handles the day to day accounting for the Village. Payroll, accounts payable, employee benefits, budget preparation and monitoring and tax collection are a few of the daily responsibilities. The Treasurer also prepares the annual update document for New York State, which provides annual accounting of the Village’s financial position.

Tax Collection

The Treasurer’s Office collects property taxes in June. Bills are mailed out at the end of May and are due by July 1 without penalty. If paid after July 1 a penalty of 5% is added through July 31st. For every month thereafter, an additional 1% penalty is added. On November 1st all unpaid taxes are turned over to Dutchess County.

Payments can be made in person by cash, or check at the Village Hall located at 1095 Main St. or mailed to:

When are Village property taxes due?

Village of Fishkill property taxes are mailed out annually on June 1st and are due without penalty on or before July 1st.  A 5.0% penalty is applied for late payments received between July 2nd to July 31st; a additional 1.0% penalty is applied for payments received between August 1st to August 31st; a additional 1.0% penalty is applied for payments received between September 1st to September 30th; a additional 1.0% penalty is applied for payments received between October 1st to October 31st.  Taxes that remain unpaid on November 1st of each year get forwarded to Dutchess County Real Property to be relevied on the Dutchess County Tax Roll for collection.

Does the Village accept credit card payments?

Yes, the Village can accept credit card payments ONLINE only. Payments made by credit card are charged a convenience fee of 3.0% of the bill which is added to the transaction.

If I mail my payment on the due date, will it be accepted without penalty?

Payments received by mail with a valid United States postmark on the envelope dated on or before the due date will be accepted. A postage meter postmark is NOT a postmark made by the United States post office, and therefore is not within the provisions of Real Property Tax Law 925. Payments will not be considered timely because of a postage meter postmark and therefore would still be subject to any and all penalties.

I never received my tax bill, do I still have to pay the penalty?

Yes, failure to mail the statement or failure to receive the statement by the taxpayer does not affect the validity of the taxes and/or interest due. The Tax Receiver does not have legal authority to waive penalties. They are fixed by the Real Property Tax Law. If you have not received your tax bill by June 7th please contact the Village Treasurer.

Where can I find information about the STAR program and property assessments?

This information is available through the Town of Fishkill Assessor’s Office. The Assessor, Christian Harkins, can be reached at 845-831-7800.
